shuttle-loom

Today Melker and I visited a small denim weaver in Italy that makes some of the denim that is used in the LAB AW09. This was very, very exciting. The shuttle looms were over 60 years old and very slow. Instead of the 18 meter fabric per hour that modern weaving machines can produce these shuttle looms makes three meters per hour. And they are only half as wide as modern machines, 75 centimetres instead of 150. The result is extremely beautiful denim. Sometimes soft and sensitive, sometimes heavy and rich, but always full of passion. This workshop has a thing for experimenting with material other then cotton. In LAB AW09 you will find both cotton mixed with cashmere and hemp.

Stylish machine

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

This very stylish machine belongs to one of our Italian suppliers. The machine is used to create the beautiful patina on the Rickard LAB Leather Shirt. I don’t know how it works but the shirt tumbles in the machine at very high speed and create a very beautiful, used look. The barrel-like thing is actually made out of wood. The result looks this beautiful.
