NO JEANS LIVE FOREVER, as they are worn regularly and in a rougher way than any other pants. No other cotton fabric goes through the same treatment as a pair of jeans that are worn almost everyday. Even though jeans are made of tightly woven cotton twill and originally made as a durable garment for workers they will have a limited life.
IF YOU WEAR YOUR JEANS LOW, hanging on the hip, the fabric and the thick seams in the crotch will rub against each other. The friction will eventually break the fabric. This is more common on tighter fits than on loose. As we are all different we also wear and tear our jeans differently.
ALL PRE-WASHED and pre-treated denims have a shorter lifetime compared to dry denim as the cotton fibres are softer and thinner after rough treatments.
THE BEST WAY TO REPAIR your jeans is to use a piece of denim as similar to your jeans as possible. If you repair a pair of washed jeans with dry denim you might get a strange shrinkage effect between the two fabrics. Use two different shades of blue thread as close to the blue colour of your jeans as possible. Read more about our repair kit here.
