Local Heroes – Denim & Brands, Stenungsund

In 2015 Louise started Denim & Brands together with Kristofer, a given companion considering they had been working together for years. Kristofer actually started selling jeans before he even turned 15. After Louise and Kristofer hung up the “Denim & Brands”-sign in downtown Stenungsund, the locals never have to leave their idyllic seaside hometown for any fashion- or denim needs. Denim & Brands is located at Sandbergs Plats 8, 444 30 Stenungsund, Sweden, or at denimandbrands.se ABOUT LOCAL HEROES We work with some of the best independent retailers across the globe. They are an amazing assortment with a wide range of concepts and characteristics. Some have been around for a long time, and others are the next generation. The one thing they all have in common is Nudie Jeans. In one way or another, they have all helped build this brand, so we wanted to highlight them, and there is no better time than now.

New fit! — Tuff Tony

The newest member to the family of fits is now available in-store and online. Tuff Tony is a loose straight fit with a high-waist and button fly. It is designed to sit at, or just above, the hip. Tuff Tony provides room over the seat down the entire leg. A slight taper from the knee down gives this fit a straight silhouette that doesn’t flare, making it bold yet refined.

We are on a mission to keep cotton farmers safe —The importance of partnerships

No one is an island — therefore, we like to team up with many different organizations to increase our sustainability efforts. The organizations we have chosen to partner with have their specific aims aligned with Nudie Jeans’ sustainability work. Our daily operations’ most crucial networks are our memberships with STICA, RISE, Fair Wear Foundation, and Textile Exchange. But we also have topic-specific organizations such as Chetna Coalition for the organic cotton we source in India, Amnesty for the work on Human Rights, and most lately, the Supply Network Intelligence Program – Sag Salim for the cotton farmers in Turkey. Sag Salim is a unique project that Outland Denim (Australia) has started together with the Precision Solutions Group (PSG) and denim supplier Bossa — and we are among the first brands to join! It is a grievance program that allows cotton farmers and cotton pickers in the Izmir-Aegean region in Turkey to hand in complaints (basically all cotton we buy from Bossa, Isko, and Orta comes from this region). All complaints are handled by the PSG, which collaborates with local organizations. This system creates visibility in a part of the supply chain that we have not had before. We can get insights as to whether there is any risk of non-compliance on the cotton fields, for example, if the farmers have received the correct payment or not. A project like this, where all stakeholders can work out the best solution for remediation, is a practical step of implementing the policy we have on Human rights and anti-slavery. We are very excited about this and hope that this will further strengthen our sustainability work and impact Turkish laws and regulations.

The Naked Truth About — Blake Hardy

Ever since Blake was gifted his first Iron Maiden T-shirt his love for vintage clothing has only continued to grow. Living in Los Angeles and working as a wardrobe stylist Blake has built a unique collection of garments and other rarities that might have been forgotten amid history. While we were in LA (pre-COVID), we caught up with Blake. He gave us an up-close and personal look inside his collection and taught us more about his pursuit of vintage treasures and garments that come with that little extra something. We are honored to be one of the lucky few film crews granted permission to film inside the legendary Torgom warehouse. Thank you to the entire Torgom team (Christina and Tony) and of course, Blake for this day in vintage paradise. Nudie Jeans presents The Naked Truth About Blake Hardy — Los Angeles, USA.

Curated by Simply Suzette

Simply Suzette is an online platform for those who seek responsible denim, bridging the gap between the denim industry and the consumer through behind-the-scenes observations of brands, their production, and trends. Simply Suzette is founded by sustainable denim and communications specialist Ani Wells. Through her website and social media, Ani encourages consumers to learn more about the origins of their clothing, focusing on denim. We met Ani while attending the Denim Days conference in Amsterdam during the Tsuyoshi Replica launch. In 2020, Ani has seen a substantial increase in demand for her services as a marketer and strategist. From afar, we could witness Ani joining streamed panel talks, hosting webinars, and going live on Instagram with her clients, slowly but surely becoming a much-needed voice for sourcing #dilligentdenim. We asked Ani if she could take some time out of her hectic schedule to provide a soundtrack for our ‘Curated By’ subscribers as we ease into the changing of seasons. The result is an eclectic selection of tropical infused pop, r&b, and throwback 90’s hits. Enjoy! Thank you, Ani!

Nudie Jeans x Waverley Mills — Recycled Blanket

Closing the Loop – The world’s first blanket made with recycled Nudie Jeans. Wouldn’t it be great if we could use local resources to close the textile loop with waste coming from used Nudie Jeans that have been handed into our stores? In 2019, the CEO of Nudie Jeans Australia, Bryce Alton, met with Andrew Cuccurullo from sustainable textile designers Waverley Wills at the Legacy Summit in Sydney. The summit is a sustainability forum where producers, industry partners, and consumers can all meet under one roof. After the initial conversations had between Bryce and Andrew, we learned that Waverley Mills had the technology to be able to shred post-consumer Nudie Jeans, blend it with locally produced wool and recycled polyester to create a new product. What was left to do but try?  “This was a huge opportunity for us to use jeans that have been handed in from consumers that couldn’t be repaired or adapted to the Nudie Jeans Re-use program. Also, a perfect occasion to see if we could collaborate with a local manufacture to create a closed textile loop in Australia“. — Bryce Alton The result is the beautiful Ture NJ x Waverley Mills Recycled blanket. The blanket is made of post-consumer jeans, Tasmanian wool, and recycled polyester. Composition – 65% recycled wool (including spinning & carding waste, offcuts), 20% denim, 15% recycled polyester Weight – 1200 grams Size – 150 x 190cm
